About Lesson
Quest for Earth 2.0!
Today marks the commencement of our epic journey.
Your mission: to design and send a CubeSat into space in search of Earth 2.0. This cosmic quest will draw upon all your acquired STEM skills, incorporate design thinking, and demand articulation of why your design is destined for success.
PBL Mission Overview:
- Objective – Earth 2.0 Discovery: Your cosmic quest is to design and engineer a CubeSat, and send it into the cosmos to search for a new habitable planet – Earth 2.0. This is not just a mission; it’s a call to action.
- STEM Skills in Action:
- Coding: Program the CubeSat for navigation, data collection, and communication.
- Circuit Design: Create circuits to power and control CubeSat functions.
- 3D Design: Craft the physical structure of the CubeSat for optimal space travel.
- Engineering: Apply engineering principles for durability and functionality.
-
- Solar Energies: How to ensure the CubeSat can maintain power
- Radio Communications: How will this CubeSat send a message back to our base
- Design Thinking Integration:
- Empathise: Understand the needs of your and the challenges of humanity needing to find Earth 2.0.
- Define: Clearly articulate the goals of your CubeSat mission, what are you going to look for? Why is this important?
- Ideate: Generate creative solutions for challenges such as energy efficiency and data transmission.
- Prototype: Construct a physical prototype and test its functions in simulated space conditions.
- Test and Iterate: Continuously test and improve your CubeSat based on feedback and real-world simulations.
STEM Tools Utilised:
- TinkerCAD (3D Design): Create a visually appealing and functional CubeSat structure.
- Coding Platforms: Program the CubeSat’s software using coding languages suited for space missions.
- Circuit Design Tools: Develop efficient and reliable circuits for power and communication.
- Collaboration Platforms: Utilise digital platforms for team collaboration and information sharing.
Articulating Mission Success:
In preparation for launch, each team will articulate why their CubeSat design will succeed in the quest for Earth 2.0. This includes a comprehensive explanation of STEM principles applied, design choices made, and the anticipated impact of their mission.
The fate of Earth 2.0 rests in your cosmic hands!
